YES! is a graphic story about autism based on video documentation.

Using real-life events as a point of departure, the six chapters of YES! aim to stimulate debate on the following topics: stereotyping in film and media, cross-cultural notions of autism, scientific validation of music, ethics and representation, socialisation, echolalia and non-verbal communication.

In the section A Mother’s Perspective you can hear interviews with the protagonist’s mother.

In the References section you can find suggestions for further reading: these have been compiled by four specialists from the fields of: autism advocacy, cognitive psychology, ethics and linguistics.

You will also be able to sample two video clips from the installation work Onomatopoeia by clicking here.

This project is authored and produced by Laura Malacart with illustrations by Daniel Locke.

YES! is funded by the Arts Council of England and the Wellcome Trust.
